I had never read B.K. Borison before this book but I had heard great things and let me tell you, she did not disappoint.
First-Time Caller is the story of Lucie and Aiden - two people who deserve more than they allow themselves to have (both for different reasons). One late night phone call into a radio station romance hotline and the rest is history. I was immediately engrossed with this book and did not want to put it down (so much so that it came with me on a work trip).
I adored Lucie because I resonated with her. A mom who loves their kid endlessly and struggles to prioritize their own happiness over others. It’s so easy to fall into the routine of “I come second” and Borison does a really great job of depicting that tight rope while also growing Lucie into someone who learns it’s okay to accept happiness for herself.
I loved Aiden. His character had depth and a backstory that pulled on your heartstrings - see what I did there? I found myself rooting for him even when he’d *open mouth, insert foot*
Not only did this book make me cry but it genuinely made me laugh. Like, in public. On an airplane. People looked at me funny - for real life. It played out in my mind like a movie and it was just so beautiful to watch these two characters fall in love.
I can’t wait to read literally everything else she’s written. Absolutely hooked.
