A Man Among Ye Volume 1 by Stephanie Phillips

3.0

Pirate historical fiction based on the story of Anne Bonny. A central focus is the freedom of piracy which is rings less hollow given the feminist perspective. While a strong female protagonist with no romance is always a plus for me, the story never really gripped me. It might be because I have a harder time rooting for criminal protagonists because a part of me keeps hoping they get caught. It might be the red hair, but it gave me vibes of some of the flatter Red Sonja stories (go from A to B, kill everything between). I may pick up the next volume, but it would mostly be to support no-ro fiction. Good art, though.
