rachd24 's review for:
The White Queen
by Philippa Gregory
My absolute favourite from the Cousins' War series (perhaps affected by my watching the BBC documentary), but Elizabeth Woodville's story is the one that gripped me the most, and her relationship with Edward, I feel, adds more depth to this novel than to some of the others. In comparison to marriages arranged solely for power or position, the love story combined in this novel really does appeal to the romantic in me (who has read one too many chick-lit books in her time!). I can not recommend the Gregory novels enough, and have passed them on and recommended them to many friends who enjoy this genre. I have read quite a few low scored reviews, and personally I am very surprised. If you wish to dissect these books from a historical point of view, or assess it as if in a Literature class then feel free, each to their own. Personally, I read for enjoyment and entertainment and this series has certainly delivered on both. Excellent.
