Civil War by Mark Millar

3.0

I think the overall themes and plotline was pretty decent bu the ending felt as if it were rushed and not as satisfying as the previous issues.

Rating Update 4/7/19- 4 stars to 3 stars. If i recall correctly, the story started off on good heights and then dropped into mediocrity.

Update 3 June 2019
With the adoption of my new rating system, a three star rating is befitting. I recall enjoying the escalation that occurred in the early issues of this volume but does not extend towards the later half of issues, leading me to believe that my original rating of four stars was based on the first half of the issues. I am not sure if the April 7, 2019 rating update is factual or a conjecture.

Update
I dislike superhero comics now, and would have lowered the rating of this volume to two stars, but I recall liking this volume. The four star-rated beginning is brought down by the later two star-rated half, which grants the volume a three star-rating, an average between the two halves.

Update
I have questioned the three star rating but have deduced that it is fine. If the first half of the book is four stars, the third quarter is two stars, and the quarter is one star, the cumulative rating is 2.75 stars which rounds up to three stars (that is not to say I can remember if the final quarter was rated at one star, though I do remember being disgruntled with how it concluded). I do not consider the second half to be consummate to the book.

Update
I have thought of lowering the rating to two stars because if the first third is considered at four stars and the other two-thirds at one stars, then the average rating is two stars. However, I go along with the rating distribution in the update from December 30, 2019, to get as close to my original feelings as possible. I was fine with the book, whereas now I would lower it at two stars.

Moreover, I had originally rated the book at four stars, which may lend the idea that I was not disgruntled as much by the poor conclusion and final quarter portion of the book, or final half portion of the book. I am unsure to what portions, apart from the ending, the criticism in the original review is referring to.

Update
I’ve changed the empty and green colored “exact rating” cell in the “Goodreads 5.0.xlsx” spreadsheet to yellow and with the number “3” inside it, to reflect the uncertainty and current choice of rating.

I’ve debated removing a rating since it seems somewhat uncertain, but in previous updates of this review there are emotions that I can recall towards the book, and it sort of gives a direction to the rating. However, the uncertainty does bother me. Also, perhaps the book is deserving of a rating of two and a half stars. I’ve left the exact rating at three stars but this also bothers me, though it was based off the previous updates beliefs. Also debatable now is whether to change the yellow with grey outline rating to grey with grey outline. I suppose this book has become a “legacy rated” book.
