Kids love horror (hello Goosebumps!) and this book was full of chills and scares a plenty with a really unique twist: it starred two fox kit protagonists and featured almost zero human characters! The one exception to the “No Humans” policy was a horrifying version of (of all people) Beatrix Potter?! I found that section a tad gonzo, but the rest by turns charming and suitably scary. Other villains included rabies, a swamp monster and, most disturbing of all, one of the characters’ murderous father who also kind of stood in as a cult leader/bigamist as well. Basically, there was a lot going on, but I could see small horror-fans loving it.
