Later: My Life at the Edge of the World by Paul Lisicky

4.0

A gorgeous, moving meditation on Provincetown and being queer in the 1990s. As someone who loves PTown now, it was interesting to see what institutions and traditions have endured for decades, as well as what has changed since the 90s. The AIDS epidemic (its grief and fear) is central to the narrative here—as it was for all gay men a few decades ago— and Paul Lisicky uses his own experiences to help us better understand that time, as well as how those attitudes have evolved in the age of Prep. This is a beautiful book—thoughtful, contemplative, heartbreaking, and ultimately joyful.
