Kulti by Mariana Zapata

3.5

Very much slow burn yes. I felt like the world building was a bit weaker in this book in comparison to other Mariana books but I still think it was enjoyable. It just didn’t really suck me in or have the burn really hurt. I liked Sal’s charaterisation, I wish they focused more on her mum or just cut out the random issues she had with her. Kulti was fine i guess.

Its a cool read tho.

HOWEVER
I’ve really had enough of reading Mariana books where I’m having a wonderful time, then the slut shaming and internalised misogyny rears its ugly head. 🥲 i.e.:
The man, who had dated supermodels, actresses and probably a whole bunch of sluts"
like ... for what?

The random use of bipolar as an insult really helps this book age poorly
