The Haunting of Ashburn House by Darcy Coates

5.0

If you are looking for a haunting book that will surprise you and give you chills, THIS is your book.

Where do I even begin? Let me just start off by saying haunted house books are my all time favorite genre. I love the mysteries and history that are hidden behind the ghost and why they became what they are. I really don't get scared often by books but this was the first time I actually got chills reading it! It probably helped I was reading this in the passenger seat of a car at 2am.

So the book is about a girl named Adrienne and she is practically homeless with her cat Wolfgang until she inherits this house from a great aunt she has never heard of or met. It all starts with a flashback that keeps you wondering throughout the whole book why that seen happened. The house is like every other haunted house with the creeking walls and dark hallways. She finds all these weird messages carved into walls and tables from her great aunt which of course makes your mind wonder to a crazy old lady. Eventually Adrienne meets new friends and weird things start to happen at the house or around the house. BUT things take a turn for the worst so quickly i barley had enough time to register what was happening. Skipping over all the details (and let me tell you the details are unimaginable from what you think they are) things end up working out for Adrienne and her friends and the story ends pretty heartfelt.

This is supposed to be a haunting yes, but it takes a little bit of a different twist. Instead there is a corpse haunting due to supernatural abilities. But don't let change you on not reading this book because i don't care for supernatural either. It doesn't go crazy on the supernatural stuff.
This book was different because I couldn't guess the ending, like most haunted houses where usually there is a bad murder or a kidnapping or suicide. The history behind everything that happens is so unique.

This is the first book i have read by Darcy Coates and from what i have seen she has many other books that i am VERY excited to read soon!

Oh by the way i read this book in literally hours, it was so hard to put down!
