Final Girls by Riley Sager

4.0

I enjoyed reading Final Girls! While I did find it addictive and didn’t want to put it down, it had to do in part with me wanting to get to the more fast-paced part where the action and mystery-solving really happens.

The beginning to the middle of the book was rather slow, and I thought the ending was way too fast. However, the actual premise of “Final Girls” and the plot is what kept me hooked.

I loved how the timeline switched from present day to the past when Quincy was at Pine Cottage with her friends to celebrate her best friend’s birthday. I didn’t mind so much when the past timeline was moving slow because I loved the suspense that it built.

Present-day, it seemed like Quincy had her life together, though she was tricking herself and everyone around her into thinking that with the help of her Xanax and her baking blog. When she found out that one of the other Final Girls had apparently committed suicide and the third Final Girl showed up at her door, Quincy started to slowly show some cracks in her “I’m fine” facade. That breakdown was captivating for me.

There were so many twists and turns, as well as a couple red herrings, to keep you guessing. I can’t believe it took me so long to figure it out! I wish there were more details as the ending was being laid out, but overall, I thought it was a nice twist.
