Such a cute story with all of the self-effacing humor and flair from Dreadful mixed with the serious-unseriousness of an episode plotline from Gilmore Girls. Viv was relatable (even as a non-parent) to all of us in a brand new and completely foreign situation, which made her at times both frustrating and understandable in her decision making, but the quips from the school notification system brought it all together. They also answered my unknown question of โWhat would regular parental updates from Hogwarts have looked like if they actually did that/had an over invested PTA group that demanded it?โ ๐
As with Dreadful, I ended up having so much fun with this story and am so glad that I picked it up! Caitlin has such a unique style of writing that brings you into a fantastic fantasy world while also grounding you with a sense of ridiculous reality and a lot of humor and sarcasm. Her books have a special cozy quality that I would recommend to any and all fantasy lovers!
