Killing Kennedy: The End of Camelot by Bill O' Reilly, Martin Dugard
4.0
4 stars for [b:Killing Kennedy: The End of Camelot|13538641|Killing Kennedy The End of Camelot|Bill O'Reilly|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1337689366l/13538641._SY75_.jpg|19100984].
I enjoyed the book and learned some things about Kennedy's presidency and his life and times. All the conspiracies after the assassination have kept the public fascinated to this day. If you liked Kennedy or not, he was generally very much loved by the nation and quite popular as President. [a:Bill O'Reilly|27281|Bill O'Reilly|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1415448841p2/27281.jpg], I think did a pretty solid job of steering clear of all the conspiracies and for the most part stuck to the facts. Some sensationalism was probably thrown in for readability, but it was an overall enjoyable read.
I visited the 6th Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza about 10 years ago on a family trip. It was interesting to see where JFK was shot, the grassy knoll, etc. After reading this book and having visited the museum in Dallas, I believe that Lee Harvey Oswald simply bought himself a $19 rifle and decided to shoot the president. Oswald had delusions of grandeur and sympathized with communists and actively supported communist movements in Russia and Cuba. This happened before I was born, but I can only imagine it was one of those watershed moments in life where you remember where you were when you heard the news.
Very interesting reading this side-by-side with [a:Stephen King|3389|Stephen King|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1362814142p2/3389.jpg]'s book [b:11/22/63|10644930|11/22/63|Stephen King|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1327876792l/10644930._SY75_.jpg|15553789] which I plan to finish hopefully next week sometime.
