The House on the Strand by Daphne du Maurier

3.0

Not my favorite du Maurier book. The main character, Dick, takes a drug that allows him to escape his current mundane life in Cornwall and "travel" to the 14th century in the same locale. Dick becomes addicted to the time travel and he cares deeply about the people in the past. What didn't work for me was the fact that I found the story of his current day life more interesting. But then I wonder, was this du Maurer's intent? Kind of a call to Dick: "Wake up you fool! What you have here is more interesting and meaningful! Stop trying to escape and engage in the here and now!"
