Born Standing Up: A Comic's Life by Steve Martin

4.0

ugh I love him. good book about he came to fame. i didn’t know he started in LA/OC and it was super cool to read along and recognize places. he talks about his family and his relationship to his father who sucked apparently. but i was most interested in just how dedicated he was to the craft. started as a magician and took the skills he learned there into his stand up/comedy. he was very intentional about everything, every pause and punctuation was practiced and considered. which is soooo funny considering how weird and zany and ridiculous some of his stand up was. like seriously he was just a weirdo. I loved how deeply he appreciated the art of performance. I think i’m gonna study some comedy in 2025. i love all things funny and want to understand and appreciate the greats. so i’ll go and listen to some standup and watch some specials. i really want to practice my comedy writing, I miss writing satirical news pieces lol long live satyr!! so i’m gonna make it a goal of mine in 2025. anyway this was a nice quick read and I love steve martin I think he’s so cute and funny and I want to marry him. ONE MORE BOOK TO MEET MY READING GOAL YES YES YES
