The Son of Neptune
by Rick Riordan
I was feeling a bit unsure after I didn't love the Lost Hero, but this was so so good and I'm really hopeful now.
The Roman setting was really fun, and there were aspects of it that I liked more than Camp Half-blood. I know I know. It was cool to see a more developed city, where demigods can live as adults. That's not really something we've seen before. Also the military structure of the camp was cool, and I felt like the ideas behind it were well developed.
I also found the pacing of this book a lot better. Perhaps some of that was because I was used to the third person narration, but even so, I felt like the story progressed well and I was more engaged than I had been before.
Hazel and Frank are so sweet and I just want them to be safe but I'm worried that they won't be, and that not all of the seven will survive. But I love all of the seven and so this may actually kill me.
Also I hate Octavian. Can someone please kick him for me?
