The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald

fast-paced

3.0

I think this is one of those books that I would have liked better if it wasn't assigned reading for school. I also wasn't a fan of cheating/affairs being the main focus of the book
and it never even really got resolved either (Gatsby dying is not a resolution) but it was kind of clear who Daisy  was going to "pick" anyway
. I think I just don't really care much about rich people problems and since that's the entire premise of this book it was just kinda "meh". I did like the writing and Nick was interesting, but there was a huge buildup to the whole "oh who's Daisy choosing" and then there was just no big reveal or decision, just a very abrupt ending. Also Nick is very clearly gay (or at least bi) because the way he talks about men is not normal speech for a straight man (constantly explaining that you weren't intimate with other men or describing their bodies/muscles in great detail is not straight man behavior Nick) and also end of chapter 2 made it clear he did something with McKee; explaining that McKee was in his underwear showing Nick pictures in bed is not excatly helping Nick's straightness factor (also Nick was there for at least six hours I doubt they were looking at pictures the whole time). Anyway overall the book was okay and it's really not that memorable in my opinion (but to each their own)
