With the omission of the final chapter, this book is an excellent commentary on the vicious cycle of violence in society, from initial conception to the endless institutional perpetualization. It ultimately concludes how the elimination of choice from every individual's life, of the ability of choosing between being good or being bad, inevitably leads to dehumanization and is nothing but crude conditioning.
That being said, the addition of a jarringly out-of-character final chapter where the protagonist suddenly regains his free will, and against all previously established personal principles makes the choice of turning his life around for the better, completely ruins the narrative established up to that point and the delivery of the climax of the story.
