sassy_bee 's review for:
Of Blood and Aether
by Harper Hawthorne
This has been a very difficult book to review. The story has been written by an Indie author and I really want to recognise that this is her first published novel and I want to keep that at the forefront of my mind when I give my very honest review.
I will start off with what I didn't enjoy:
The most unforgivable part of this book is that the plot didn't really kick in, and even then, only slightly at 350 pages, and that ending, which, without giving spoilers, was super full on was done and dusted in less than 30/50pages.
The ending, I didn't hate it, it wasn't a huge surprise (kind of gathered where this story was going at 50 pages in, and that isn't a bad thing at all, I like the plot direction tbh) I didn't like the MMC's direction took, it was very, eye rolling and quite frankly, annoyed me, because there were so many different paths that could of been taken, it felt so betraying as a reader, we had so so so so so much info dumping of BOTH povs, and then NOTHING from the MMC of substance to help the reader along in the betrayal. It made no sense
