The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde

4.0

This is a complicated one to review. It gets only 1 star for my enjoyment of the novel. Only 1 star again for the terrible portrayal of women and how under-valued they are in Wilde's story. I suppose this entire time period would earn only one star in my mind!

It was a burlesque of horrors, which was exactly what Wilde intended to showcase, so the book gets 5 stars in that regard.

As a classic, this is a solid 4. A horrendous story, masterfully told.
If you need characters to root for, this book is NOT for you!
