Covet by Tracy Wolff

Well, well, well…color me surprised.

When I say I HATED the first two books in this series, I do not say that lightly. I honestly loathed them and wrote a dissertation to match. They were the most juvenile, unnecessarily lengthy reads I had ever suffered through.

Crave read like a weird Twilight/Harry Potter fanfic that regularly danced upon plagiarism imo and Crush was like reading a dramatic 12 year olds’s diary talking about the boys she liked in excruciating detail (which btw lol to the title of that now I think about it cause spot on). So how Tracy managed to pull this thoroughly enjoyable work of magic out of her ass is beyond me, but she really did the damn thing.

I originally got myself into this mess because Crush was just released and audible was promoting that by allowing Plus members to listen to both Crave and Crush for free and once I finished Crave my non-existent DNF bone cursed me into continuing the series. I also really did not vibe with the narrator, so I wanted to give it another shot once I was used to her, and I do think she grew into her role much better by Covet for sure.

I think this book was pretty excellent, definitely 4.5 stars after the first few stupid chapters, but those brought it down to a 4 for me overall. I also never liked Jackson and I’m SO glad I didn’t have to deal with his cliche brooding this whole novel, which probably factored into my enjoyment of this as well. The adventure actually made sense this time (they weren’t just doing shit to do shit anymore) and the character depth was much better as well. I can’t tell if she wrote the first two the way she did on purpose so that you can literally feel Grace’s maturity developing as you read, but if that was the end goal, that’s brilliant.

Sucked that I had to get to book 3 to feel like I was no longer wasting my time, but I think it paid off with how much I loved it.

TL;DR: skip the first two and start with Covet.
