Getting Things Done: The Art of Stress-Free Productivity
by David Allen
This book was really great! While some of the techniques were a little dated (he was writing at the very early stages of the digital age, so paper files were still being used really heavily, and email was only just coming around), the underlying principles are still the same, and his process can be adapted relatively painlessly into the modern day.
In a nutshell, the idea is to take a moment to define whether or not something needs to be done (and what that next action is) them moment an item enters your inbox. Don’t let the item remain ill defined, or let your inbox start overflowing. Periodically clean it out, define next actions, and then write those next actions on an appropriate list.
While he does have specific lists that he recommends, the important part is that everything in your ecosystem is written down on one of your lists, and that you review your lists regularly. The lists themselves should match your work and your life.
Definitely worth a read. 10/10 would recommend.
