Character Impressions:

Selene Rhodes
Sexy, mysterious, and has an accent. She’s so protective over Eve, to the point she’s willing to risk exposing her secret just to keep Eve safe. She sees herself as a monster because of her shapeshifting ability, but she has to use this power to protect a woman she’s falling in love with. O’Brien did an excellent job of forcing Selene into scenarios where she has to get creative with how she uses her power.

There’s a specific creature Selene turns into during the full moon and you don’t get to see what that is until the climax of the story. Let me tell you, that entire scene had me on the edge of my seat.

Eve Thomas
The first time you meet Eve, she gets attacked and my god, does that send her down a spiral. Places that used to be her sanctuary become places she can’t visit for fear that her attacker may come for her there. So, it makes sense that Selene would be the only bright ray of hope in her life after she comes to Eve’s rescue.

Eve might seem like she’s not doing much in the story but it can’t be helped because she’s being targeted, so it’s not like she can waltz around the city and go about her day when the person who’s after her is loose in the streets.

However, that doesn’t mean she’s a passive character. She still goes to her job and does what she can to track down her attacker even when he’s killing other women just to taunt her. On top of all this, she has to deal with her ex, Jac, who can’t accept that Eve has moved on and is falling for Selene.

Minor Characters:

Jac: No doubt there’s going to be some drama with a cheating ex around, but Eve doesn’t take any of Jac’s BS or attempts at seduction. I’m glad she put her foot down and laid out her boundaries to be clear where Jac stands in her life: The friendzone. That’s where Jac stands. It’s more than what she deserves in my opinion.
Kevin: Eve’s stalker. There’s about three chapters from his perspective and they were hard to read because he was such a vile man. Being in his thoughts made me want to puke. He thinks he’s a god and the smartest man alive. I loved hating him and relished the moment he got what he deserved.

Story Impressions:

Every encounter between the two leads, every thought they had for each other, was a pleasure to read. I live for that kind of stuff.

The mystery of the serial killer was handled in a different way than a whodunit story. He’s not someone the heroines know, so you’re not trying to figure out who among the cast is the killer in disguise and it makes sense because this isn’t that kind of mystery. You’re told his name early on in the story, so the real mystery is how the heroines are going to find out who he is.

And I have to say, the entire sequence where Selene figures out his name and address was tense.

Highlights:

  • Highlight 1: I live for lesbian stories where the two leads are together for 95% of the novel.
  • Highlight 2: A competent protagonist!
  • Highlight 3: Multiple sex scenes that were explicit and went from sizzling to hot.
  • Highlight 4: Cheating ex-girlfriend gets put in her place.
  • Highlight 5: The audiobook. Just buy it.
