Radio Silence by Alice Oseman
5.0
Have you ever felt hollow from inside and scared to talk about it to someone or have you lived the way people wanted you to suppressing your inner self? Well, welcome then! You are Radio Silence and this is your story!
Frances Janvier spends most of her time studying.Everyone knows Aled Last as that quiet boy who gets straight As.
You probably think that they are going to fall in love or something. Since he is a boy and she is a girl. They don’t. They make a podcast.
In a world determined to shut them up, knock them down, and set them on a cookie cutter life path, Frances and Aled struggle to find their voices over the course of one life-changing year. Will they have the courage to show everyone who they really are? Or will they be met with radio silence?

Modern aged coming out of age books are something that young generation can mostly connect themselves with.. No exception for me too. And particularly I'm a huge fan of such genre and have gone through many such books. But undoubtedly this book is way too incredibly much different from those I've read before. It's realistic and the way "Radio Silence" the artist behind a Youtube podcast tells his story anonymously using metaphors, is just brilliant. Each and every single details of the book makes a strong base for further and I personally loved it AF...
Nevertheless, Radio is the most incredible character here but writer has picked a different way to tell his story to us. From the viewpoint of Frances Janvier, a freaking nerdy fangirl of the podcast. Which I suppose a good way to depict the story.
The story evolve around the life of three insane study machines Aled, Frances, Daniel, who in a rough perspective are an idle for all students but is it all? Are the also strong enough from inside? Whereas Raine Sengupta and Aled's twin sister Crays Last are completely different from this three. They all are just us, teenagers who somehow are abounded by Their parents' expectations, enforcing them to live a suffocating life they never wished for. There are so many variety, say as their sexual orientation, (Raine is straight, Daniel is Gay, Crays is lesbian, Frances is Bisexual and Aled? Not gonna say! It’s the whole suspense ) discovering the way they want to live.... I love the building up Aled's personality, there are countless shades of his character. It’s mesmerised me greatly. But another character I'm obsessed with is Raine Sengupta, who basically played a small portion of the story but what she did is phenomenal.
Another Two complete opposite characters gave me guts. Aled"s mum Carol Last and Fances mom. This two depict two types of parental mentality, one who believes only on her child's academic performance and another really cares of her child. And the consequences also has been shown boldly.
In short, the book is hugely capable of playing with your mind and obviously in a total realistic way. But I hate the ending portion. It's super fast and kind of dramatic. (not gonna tell the storyline, obviously to avoid any spoiler, just go and read to know more. Lol) like man where you are so much engaged with the characters and story and suddenly It just turn into something like "DDLJ" type of drama, surely it’s a downer and I'm kinda offended... But for my relief this drama stops just only a bit before the endline, making a good ending. And so yeah! I loved it..

This book is a fresh new thing to my plater. It's wholly not like "Simon VS the homo Sapien agenda" or "what if it’s us" type of modern age LGBT book. But yeah, It's engaging, thrilling, emotional, educational (a bit I suppose) and what else YOU want man? So for me it’s aaaa.......huge Hit...
Highly recommended!
