raynasdad 's review for:
The Ruins of Gorlan
by John Flanagan
I have been putting off starting this series, simply because it is somewhat long (same reason I've never read Redwall) and I didn't want to start a new series. Now, this book has been selected for Battle of the Books, and I'm a judge, so I had to read it. And, of course, I liked it so much, now I have to read the whole series.
I liked the world that the book is set in, but most of all, I like the characters. Will is a thoroughly likable and relatable character, without being so perfect that he seems unreal. And there was genuine conflict, without the angst that is so often found in books for older kids.
