3.5

Chakraborty wrote this as their pandemic book where they returned to familiar characters and worlds because writing anything new felt too daunting. It is structured chronologically along the City of Brass timeline.

While I enjoy these characters and am happy to get more of these characters and this world I only really enjoyed the ones that were full prequels to the story or full epilogues because all the in-between stuff didn't do it for me. While I recognize that might be my fault because I binged the original trilogy it also felt a bit like stuffing the story. This was perfectly enjoyable but not as memorable as the trilogy itself. 3.5
