Darkness births the Stars: an epic enemies-to-lovers fantasy romance by Sarah Lee Wohn

dark emotional hopeful reflective tense slow-paced

4.5

Huge thanks to Sarah Lee Wohn for the privilege of ARC reading Darkness Births the Stars!

This story had so many things I love: star-crossed gods, quiet longing, magical chaos, and a second chance that actually hurts in the best way.

I was totally charmed by the idea of two fallen gods living their little cottagecore life on a farm before they try to save the world. The flashbacks were a standout for me, giving such good emotional payoff early on while still building that slow-burn tension in the present timeline.

Rada and Noctis have the kind of dynamic I live for. Complicated, full of pain and history, but still magnetic. I laughed out loud a few times, and there was at least one scene that had me cryiiiiiing. The open door spice is there but the yearning and tenderness really got me.

That said, the pacing was a bit slow in parts and it felt like the book could’ve been trimmed down a bit. But honestly? I didn’t even mind too much because I was so invested in these characters and their journey.

I’m absolutely intrigued to see where this series goes next.
