Fire Night by Penelope Douglas

5.0

Like someone said, reading this novella felt like coming back home. I missed the crew and it felt so nice to revisit them and see them actually adulting. With kids. I couldn't imagine any of the boys starting their own families.

I love Kai and Bank's relationship. And I love Kai's calm and patient personality. Such a contrast to Damon and even Will and Michael.

Damon is now a wholesome dad!? Who would have thought that this broken murderous psychopath would have five children with the love of his life and eventually bury some (if not all) of his demons and get his happily ever after that he so much deserved.

Will is back to being our goofy guy but this time with three kids and a hot wife.

Michael, despite acting all mature and leader-like, is a complete headass fool. What he did while looking for his friends' kids on a boat was a giant turd move and did nothing to help his personality of a brick wall. Rika isn't any better either and now we have a Rika 2.0 in the form of Athos. The same stupid girl who thinks she is a badass. Nope. You wanna know what badass is? Get some lessons from Banks or Alex or Winter. Emmy too. Rika was always my least favorite character and now along with Michael it is cemented that they are the worst couple of the Devil's Night universe.

It felt good to read about the next generation even though I know we are not going to get a spin-off series about the kids and honestly, I'm not complaining. Penelope said that she will destroy our favorite characters and that the kids were safer in our minds. So I'm guessing she full well intends to make Octavia and Madden a forbidden incestuous couple.
Well, we won't find it out, I guess. I can't believe I'd be into reading that. Huff.

Speaking of Mads and Octavia, what a cute little bond they share! It reminds me very much of Banks and Damon when they were younger.

Mads is a confirmed psychopath, right? We all agree that something is definitely not right with that eleven year old boy. He cannot be Kai's son. He should be Damon's son. Of course he took after his uncle. Although he has the same calm and patient demeanour of his father. But he also has the murderous tendencies of his uncle. Perhaps even worse than him because an eleven year old boy killed three people in the most perfect, artistic, and brutally professional manner. Damon at that age was jusy a traumatized little boy. Mads is a boy fully aware of himself. I would love to read about him, especially after that epilogue. I am guessing Emmy realized Mads needed the key now and decided to pass it onto him. Good decision, Emmy!

Although I would love to read more about Mads and the next gen, I am glad I got to read this. This was a very welcome surprise after thinking the series ended with Nightall.

This series shaped my teenage years and I will forever be grateful to PD for introducing me to a world that I would gladly invest my whole life in.
