Off Balance
by Dominique Moceanu
I wanted to read this book because (1) I love gymnastics and (2) I saw an amazing story on HBO Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel about Dominique meeting a sister she never knew about who was given up for adoption by her parents because she had no legs. The 15-minute HBO story was phenomenal, and summarized and synthesized some of the best parts of this book.
The book itself is a really quick read, and may be well suited for mature younger readers. Dominique seems to have rebounded from some difficult times in her life, and I'm a new fan of hers. I am concerned for young elite-level gymanasts, though. Their lives seem more than a little off balance.
