The Stolen Heir by Holly Black
3.0
°• 3.25⭐•°
The number one reason i read this:
the second book in the duology recently came out and i found out jude and cardan make an appearance in it and since i miss them a lot i decided to read this so i can get to the next one and see them again (fyi jude and cardan are part of the original trilogy but this duology takes place 8 years later so yeah)
Oh and also i've had this downloaded since February but have been putting it off. Why? i don't know, i just did.
Recently i went to a no-wifi/no-signal zone for a few days so naturally, i was bored, and i just randomly decided to read this - and here we are.
The Stolen Heir is about Oak, who is Jude's younger brother, and Suren, a character we were introduced to in the original trilogy who becomes more prominent now. Suren prefers that people call her Wren, for reasons i cannot disclose, but i will be referring to her as Wren as well.
Let me tell you something about Oak and Wren's physical appearances. Oak has horns, and hooves. HOOVES, DO YOU COPY? H-O-O-V-E-S. HOOVES. Like i'm sorry and i mean no offence but i just cannot imagine Oak to be good-looking if he has hooves. Wren has light blue skin, predator-like teeth, dark blue hair, and sharp nails. It's kinda hard to imagine her in my head, and the combo is weird, but yeah.
The plot initially had me bored, but as the ending neared, i could see something was up. And Holly Black did not disappoint, the ending was entirely uncalled for and surprising. Honestly, i don't know what else to tell you - this book just did not hit for me. But i can tell you one thing, Holly Black's writing and way of strategy and planning will never cease to leave me amazed. She is just awesome.
I can't drag this review any longer because there is literally nothing to say. I was bored but i can't wait to read the next book since i'll get snippets of Jude and Cardan!!!!!!
Oh, and here's a quote where they're mentioned.
"She's going to want to wear your skull for a hat ... And Cardan is going to laugh and laugh when she does."
