I definitely was able to get stuck into this much deeper this time, as I dnf-ed this book about a year ago due to simply losing interest and wanting to mood read other things.

As with most King books, starts off fast paced then gets slow in the middle due to a tendency to draw forward the importance of every detail. In some instances, The Shining uses this to create necessary tension, but I think too many details and direct hints are given to the reader too early to constitute a serious threat.

I also wish Danny, especially at the beginning, didn’t act like the poor approximation of a child by somebody who has never met one.

But overall I had a fun time reading this! I’d come back to it in a few years.
