Death at Wentwater Court by Carola Dunn

2.0

Distinctly lame. Not a bad plot or characters, but the historical sense is fairly hopeless. At times, it reads more like a parody of a twenties house party mystery than the real thing. Everyone under 30 uses the most obvious twenties slang all the time, and all the class stuff is absolutely hopelessly self conscious, plus it's not even a very well-written book or a good mystery--the solution is lame, and some of the sentences make me cringe. If you want a twenties house party mystery, either read a real one or look for Dolores Gordon-Smith's, which are much better.
