Lost Girls: An Unsolved American Mystery by Robert Kolker

dark informative reflective slow-paced

2.5

This book truly succeeds at humanizing the victims of the Long Island Serial Killer, and the various nuanced issues of prostitution in the digital age.

If you’re looking for forensics, evidence, theories, and anything police/law, you’ll leave disappointed.

I enjoyed this in the beginning, but it sagged quite a bit in the middle and end. It delves so much into the pimp/baby mama/family drama involving so many people I QUICKLY lost track of who literally anyone was. There’s a cast of characters list in the back but it’s hardly helpful. I don’t think I’ll actually remember any of the victims’ names five days from now, and it’s disappointing when the main goal of this seems to be telling the victims’ stories.

If you enjoy reading about prostitution and poverty, you’ll find it here. That’s mostly it.
