Animal Man, Vol. 2: Origin of the Species by Grant Morrison

3.0

The adventures contained in this volume are very much in vein of the common superhero, although there are a few meta moments towards the later half, where the comic book existence of the characters is hinted at. It is always interesting to see in what novel ways Buddy chooses to use his animal powers. Most of the stories of this collection centre around Buddy's animal activism. The morality behind the movement gets called into question a couple of times. And I think it is Grant Morrison's attempt to work through his own thoughts on the matter. A lot of lesser known superheroes also make cameos throughout the comics. It was a fun, if somewhat conventional (considering it was written by Grant Morrison) read.
