Poirot and Hastings stumble into an attempted murder case while on a vacation near creaky old End House. Trying to find out who tried to kill flighty Nick Buckley, they turn over secrets among a group of friends and hangers-on over a few sunny days.
Not as gripping as earlier Poirot books. The last 20 pages were delightful, but the lead up was ho-hum. Less development of the setting than usual, with a set of characters it's hard to care for. Poirot's egotism is played for humor in earlier books, but it grates here at times (though perhaps for calculated reasons).
