What a good story.
Although the MC is a journalist, this is written more like a whodunit, so there are no wanderings into things like lengthy descriptions of things or feelings until they're important. I enjoyed both the focused prose and the extremely good editing. There was only one point where I was told something that just happened, as if I couldn't pick up the significance on my own. And there was only one messy thing that was not mentioned when it was next a potential issue, which is an odd thing to miss in this kind of story. But the concerning moments concerned me, and the scary ones made me read faster, so that's a solid win.
I bought book 2, so onward. :)
