Lowen Ashleigh is a struggling writer on the brink of financial ruin when she accepts the job offer of a lifetime. Jeremy Crawford, husband of bestselling author Verity Crawford, has hired Lowen to complete the remaining books in a successful series his injured wife is unable to finish. Lowen stays at the Crawford home to sort through years of Verity’s notes and outlines, hoping to find enough material to get her started. What Lowen doesn’t expect to uncover in the chaotic office is an unfinished autobiography Verity never intended for anyone to read. The more she reads the more horrified she is and the more entwined she gets with Verity’s secrets. Will she be able to finish the books or will her choices further ruin her situation?

I still have hope that I will find a thriller book that completely stuns me, one which I enjoy from start to finish. It’s hard for me to wrap my mind around reading for the plot and not character development. Lowen is your typical thriller character that makes bad decisions and gets twisted up in a terrible situation. I just want to bang my head against a wall when I know a character should be running away but they chose to stay.

Verity had some pretty explicit scenes and content. I think this will be a hard read for mothers and soon to be mothers. There were some chapters I even found to be rough. I believe I text @daylafm “Wtf was that chapter!”. That being said, Hoover’s talent for creating tense and shocking twists shines in the thriller genre just as it does in the romance genre. I did enjoy the twist at the end and read this in a single sitting on a train ride. If you’re looking for a fast paced page flipper definitely check it out.

Thank you @daylafm for spontaneously buddy reading this with me! After reading 2 Hoover thrillers I have to say I am still a fan of her romance and the thriller genre is still a hit or miss for me. Verity you’ll have to sit in the middle of the road at 3✨ as is typical for me with thrillers.
