Review:
Since this book is a compilation of three shorter stories instead of one story on its own, I’ll just go along and do each one as a section. Cool? Cool.
The Boy in the Web:
I gave this one three stars, and I ended up liking this one the best out of all three. This story wasn’t about Alyssa, Jeb, or Morpheus, rather about Alyssa’s parents, Alison and Thomas/David. Maybe that’s why I ended up liking it the most? Her parents weren’t exactly incredibly more likeable than she was, but I did enjoy getting to see the story a little bit through Alison’s eyes. Maybe I’m jaded on Alyssa, but it was a breath of fresh air.
I enjoyed the past sections more than I did the present ones, however. It was interesting getting to see flashes of who they had been when they were Alyssa’s age and how their relationship and circumstances came to be. The weirdest part about it all was Morpheus showing up, honestly. Like, I knew he’d been around since Alison’s time and even farther back, but it’s weird as hell to think about the fact he was friends with Alyssa’s mom before falling for Alyssa. Kind of gross as hell, actually.

I can’t tell if this one was my least favorite or not. It has to do with Morpehus and Jeb, and we know how much I don’t like either of them. Most of the story itself was about Jeb and his memories, which I guess is how Morpehus and Jeb form some kind of friendship thing like you see in Unhinged, but it was just kind of creepy. Which, granted, is very Morpheus (because he’s creepy as hell at times), but I don’t know. I expected more out of that whole relationship, but in existence and creation, and I got basically scraps of what I wanted.
And, yeah, still didn’t like either of them by the time this little story was through, so. I’m probably jaded there, too. I just don’t like any of our main characters, and, by the end of it all, that unfortunately hadn’t changed.
Six Impossible Things:
I actually started off kind of liking this one? The parts of Alyssa with Jeb and their children was actually kind of cute, even though Alyssa was technically “dying” in one of them. By the end of the story, though, I was full on Absolutely Not Put it Back, Thank You.
Like, okay. I knew that Alyssa gets both the guys (just like another popular story, and, even though I do love that trilogy and its characters, I was disappointed the girl couldn’t just be with both guys in a poly situation, because triangles SUCK and I loved both the male leads and they loved each other, but WHATEVER), but watching it actually happened rubbed me all the wrong ways. And I’m not even sure why it did.
What I do know bothered me, though, was a spoiler that I can’t actually say, but has to do with Morpeus and his life with Alyssa after the fact. I’m sure you know exactly what I’m talking about if you’ve read this. Alyssa really got everything in life, didn’t see? She didn’t sacrifice a goddamn thing, and I think that’s what I always hated the most about the series. It’s just not satisfying for me. (Or, at least, not with Alyssa. Other characters I might say differently. For example: Ronan Lynch? Give that boy the world, he needs it. He’d probably burn it to cinders, but, like. He’s gone through some shit. Give it to him.)
So, there it is. I am almost completely done with this series (I thought I was fully done at the time, but there’s one more novella I can’t get my hands on just yet), and then I’m FREE.
