Wow! The first chunk of the book had a strong level of creeping horror that really made me want to not continue reading, but I powered through and by the end I was completely wrapped up in the plot and very emotionally invested in the main characters.

O'Keefe wrote the tension and the slow reveal of the mystery over the core of the book so well. Same quality with the characters; I had a hard time initially believing where the character arcs for Naira and Tarquin were taking them
especially with each other
, but O'Keefe totally made me a believer, it felt completely natural how things progressed for both of them and where they were by the end of book 1. The core scifi ideas and their ramifications were really really creative; O'Keefe took some really cool and creepy ideas and brought them together in mostly believable ways.

The book wraps up alright, but this is very much a book one and not self contained; have book two ready if you don't want to wait to continue the dangling plot threads.

Had a ton of fun with this one! I'm going to check out O'Keefe's other works if the rest of the trilogy is this good.
