I really did enjoy the first book but this sequel was even better than the first! This really had everything I was looking for in the first one. The emotions. The villainous behavior. The doing whatever it takes to survive and the hard choices that go into making those decisions. I really was far more invested in these characters for the sequel then I was for the first book which made it all the better.
If this entire book could have been about Gavin, Allister, and Henry I think it could have easily been a five star read. I found myself far more invested in their chapters and storyline than any of the others. That's definitely not to say I didn't enjoy or wasn't interested in the others. Just not nearly as much.
I felt like this wrapped up in a really solid way, while not feeling too perfect or too easy. It was also really interesting to get a little more about how this particular world works and all of that stuff.
Over all a really good book and end to a duology! Well worth the read, even if you felt eh about the first one.
