Deadhouse Gates by Steven Erikson
5.0

This was a vast improvement on Gardens of the Moon, I understand why some readers drop the series after the first book as you are thrown in at the deep end and it can be a struggle to read and keep track of all the information at times.
Deadhouse Gates is the book that has stayed in my mind the most from my previous read through, the world building is so rich and the characters introduced very compelling. My favourite POV was Duiker's and the whole Chain of Dogs storyline was outstandingly written with an emotional and tragic conclusion. I also love the friendship between Icarium and Mappo and the comic relief from Pust's insane monologues.
Overall everything just felt a lot more focused and better written than the previous volume.
