The Hunger by Alma Katsu

4.0

I usually don’t read thrillers/horrors but I couldn’t put this down!
My favorite part of the book was how the environment was described. I could FEEL the heat, sand, snow, water, etc. throughout the book. It felt dragged out at times but I was then hit with twists & turns at the perfect time!
Most of all, I cannot get over the atmosphere the author created. Some of my favorites lines that portrayed the landscape & made this reading experience so enjoyable:

“The blossoms bent and swayed at her touch, so delicate they almost tickled.”

“The old words sounded thin in the night air.”

“Her voice was so easy, like watching a rock bouncing down a hill.”

“Clouds floated in the sky, fluffy as cotton still on the stalk and so low that you would swear you could reach up and touch them. The plain stretched to the horizon, great patches of green and gold, and Little Sandy snaking through it. A gentle river, and, true to its name, not wide at all. It was hard to imagine anything bad happening here.”
