The Drowning Woman by Robyn Harding

5.0

I really enjoyed this thriller! I was immediately sucked in by our main character Lee. Down on her luck, she lost her restaurant business during the pandemic and has ended up living in her car. The life of being homeless and trying to make ends meet hits the reader hard. Having somewhere safe to sleep becomes your highest priority.

One day Lee saves a woman who is drowning in the Puget Sound. Lee develops a friendship with the woman Hazel, and she learns that Hazel is being abused by her lawyer husband Benjamin.

This novel is so propulsive, and what was delightful was that we also get to see Hazel's perspective as well. Another thing I really appreciate is that the author isn't deceptive toward the reader. Plot points don't come out of left field.

This novel takes place in Seattle, and I really loved that. There was only one instance when I-5 was called "the I-5" that made me question if the author actually lived here.

Overall, I loved this novel and put several other Robyn Harding novels on my TBR.
