Cat's Eye by Margaret Atwood

I don't read a lot of straight fiction. (Big surprise, look at the books I have listed. Fantasy/sci fi geek through and through.) But this book was complex, thought-provoking and really worth the read. First of all, it's nice to be in the land of fiction writers. The craft of the sentence is sometimes just a little more polished, the language a little more pointed than my average rolicking story focused fantasy novel. And this book brings up things I don't think about often but have a strange familiarity with; the cruelty of children, especially little girls; the anxiety of adulthood and carrying that child you used to be in your head. And I loved the descriptions of the art-that-only-exists-in-words, it made me want to paint. Uncomfortable stories, but really good reading.
