An intriguing sci-fi concept held back by the fact that the characters aren’t all that interesting, world building is two-dimensional, and the writing style is lean and tightly focused on moving the plot apace which leaves the details of the world unexplored, the effects of the concept on people, culture, and society shallowly defined. A good YA novel for fans of the Hunger Games. Doesn’t delve deep enough into its premise or characters for me. Don’t think I’ll be finishing this trilogy.
