oh, um......wow
*cue awkward jazz hands* so this took like 4 months for me to read but....wow. WOW was it worth it
first of all, i just want to point out the irony that i gave the first book like 3.5 stars, and here i am giving this FIVE STARS. so, what changed?
A LOT.
the plot was thicc. the characters were smart and cunning. the writing was simple yet pretty. as someone who has never read anything about faeries before, this series is like the perfect introduction.
second, the issues that i had with the first book didn’t necessarily go away, but the characters i had issue with did (kind of, lol). do i wish there was more smut? hell yeah. i don’t quite remember how old everyone is supposed to be, but it is difficult to think that jude would be in her teens. however, i would say that mostly everything else was done smartly. it really kept me at the edge of my seat. and i LOVED the politics, and world building of this fantasy series made everything feel very real. it’s not so complicated that it slows down the plot, or makes it not understandable.
SO - would i say that this is the best fantasy book ever? maybe not. i don’t read a lot of fantasy. but is this one of the best romances ever? HELL YEAH.
[side note: i read the second half of this on audio and i HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend it. the voice actor is the best i’ve ever read. she brings life to every person speaking, and even the way she does male voices is good. so if you have a long commute or just want to lay down and chill, and want to listen to an angsty, plot-driven fantasy book - LOOK NO FURTHER!!]
