The Traitor Queen by Danielle L. Jensen
5.0
Okay, this book is so much better than the first (and I liked the first book.) I started reading it at 9am and finished it at 4:30pm. I just couldn't put it down, it was so good the whole way through.
The kingdom dynamics were complex and exciting. The new characters all added new enjoyable elements to the story. It was a really good sequel overall. The plot was suspenseful and it offered more backstory into characters.
I also really like that the ending was a good finish, seen as the their book doesn't even have a release date yet, and if there had been a cliffhanger I would have been very mad. It still leaves me with enough questions to be intrigued enough to read a their book (whenever it comes out) but it didn't leave me on a frustrated cliffhanger.
This book was easily on par with series like [b:Throne of Glass|7896527|Throne of Glass (Throne of Glass, #1)|Sarah J. Maas|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1495278054l/7896527._SY75_.jpg|11138426] but with a more simiistic plot (due to the lack of magic) which allowed for the plot to focus more on the kingdom dynamics and the charaters development.
This series seriously doesn't get enough praise in the YA community. I loved it.
