This was really good but, IMO not great. The pacing felt discontiguous, slow then fast then slow again then fast again…it was jarring. At about 60% I was ready to DNF but I wanted to get to the part where they finally kill Ernt ! So, I kept going.
The ending was good and felt solid. I hated how much, and how often Cora guilted Lenny into submission/staying/conforming. I will say that Kristin Hannah knows how to write characters. I loved a lot of the characters, especially Large Marge. I didn’t really like Cora, but she’s a flawed character…I get it.
I think Lenny was written really well. She’s a kid that had to grow up fast and see things no kid should see and her reasoning throughout is appropriate for her age.
Overall, this was good.
