Daring and the Duke by Sarah MacLean
5.0

The third book in the Bareknuckle Bastards series, and if I’m being honest, the one I was most excited about (despite the fact it took me a while to get around to reading it, purely due to my terrible memory for what I’m going to read next. I should write a good list).

The build up that Ewan and Grace got, particularly in the first book which did such a marvelous job of establishing the premise of the series, really set this book up for me.

I think something happened to Sarah MacLean between book 2 and book 3. Because hey, book 2 was great, I liked it a lot. But something happened, like a switch flicked, and SM’s writing just went to off the charts amazing. This was the leveling up of an author to the next stage in their writing abilities.

I read this book with so much delight. The turn of phrase, the descriptions, the pace and flow of the story, the energy and chemistry between the characters – it was all incredible.

I’ve read some great books so far this year, but this makes the top of the list. I loved it from start to finish.

If you want to know how good romance can be, this book will take you there.
