Wanted to love this book but found the translation to be poor and couldn’t get past the transphobia! I know the book was written in 1988 so I suppose for the time some may consider it forward-thinking but it still ruined it for me. 

I much preferred the first story to the second though and did enjoy the insights into Japanese culture around bereavement.
