I cannot believe that I didn't rate this book 5 stars. Do not get me wrong, I still very much enjoyed the book and this series is still in my top #5 as a whole... but I just didn't connect with the main couple as much as I did the last two. I LOVE GIBSIE AND CLAIRE, DO NOT GET ME WRONG but something about them just didn't do it for me as much as the other couples did BUT I STILL LOVE THEM TOGETHER AND THINK THEY ARE SO CUTE. IDK but it felt as if one second they were still teetering on the edge of being together and the next BOOM they were
fooling around in Claire's room and were together a few chapters later
I get that this book is a slow burn since they have been friends for so long, but I wish that we could have gotten more buildup into them starting the physical stuff. Like I wanted a scene from Gibbs where after years of denying it, he just threw up his arms and said "Fuck it" and kissed her but idk. While the couple's romantic antics weren't my fav of the bunch, the trauma that Gibbs went through was not expected. I never once put two and two together that he was
being raped by Mark. The fact that Gibbs was suffering in silence for YEARS and nobody ever suspected the step-brother??!!? JAIL TIME I NEED MARK TO GET THE PUNISHMENT HE DESERVES FOR THIS.
I was also not the biggest fan of the ending.
Literally you find out that Gibbs was getting assaulted, him and his mom go away while the step dad moves out, and they come back during the holidays/back to school and BOOM the book is over, i needed a little more of Claire and Gibbsie being happy since we didn't get much of that.
Regardless, I am super excited for Hughie and Lizzie's story!!! I think this one might be my most anticipated read of the series and I know for a fact that this one is going to hurt the most.
