Ok. I was sure I was going to rate this book two stars, but the ending bumped it up. The second I heard the initials “EJ” I was certain that Ethan killed Dr Hale, and I was pleasantly surprised when that was not the case! However, I still have gripes, especially with the writing style. Everything was so straightforwardly, almost juvenile-y written, which did make the book easy to digest but led to some very cringe lines (I never want to hear the word “swoon” again in my life). Additionally, I could not stand Dr Hale- we are told time and again how brilliant of a psychiatrist she is, but never SHOWN this. I love evil women characters, but the women in this novel had very stereotypically misogynistic traits: impulsive, manipulative, rash, and using men to do their dirty work. ESPECIALLY Dr hale. Like girl, stand up! You did not need to implicate Luke in as many things as you did. You’re supposed to be brilliant. Anyway. the book was at least entertaining, and the ending satisfying.
